Great Features to Add to Your Landscape Design

There are many wonderful features you can add to your landscape design and water is one of them. You can add water in the form of a pool or pond, a fountain or one of the many trickling water features that are available these days. What you choose will be dictated to a great extent by your area size and your budget.

A small pool can cost a great deal, but if you are a handyman, you may be able to install one yourself. You may even be able to simply use a half wine barrel to make one for the patio or a sheltered spot in the garden. A water feature that includes rocks will always be popular and look fantastic - rocks and water go together beautifully. Water features can also be made from plump pots or sleek geometric columns. The ultimate water feature could be one that takes up a whole wall.

If you have a bit more space than average, you may consider creating a stone or brick wall with an archway. This can give privacy or lead into another interesting area of the garden. If you chose to make a circular opening instead of an arch, it would be unique and beautiful. Make the opening big enough to walk through, or make it like a big window and insert support for a vine to twine around the opening.

Some people find attractive, gnarled stumps or roots in the forest to use for a focal point in their garden. A small, mossy log can be just as attractive. Sometimes the moss or fungi on timber is quite colorful. Large rocks stacked on top of each other also form a good feature. If you stack them yourself, be sure that they are stable.

If you have a large urn in your garden, you can either fill it with water or with a plant, then you can create an edging around the base and fill the space with colored pebbles. That will turn it into a special feature instead of just a pot. A spotlight could be added for night viewing.

Other features are a gazebo, a vine-covered potting shed, or a trellis or vine arbor with a seat under it, and archways of various types. Three or four bought archways (strong ones) can be placed in a line and chicken wire spread along the top, then vines grown over the whole to form a tunnel. The far end of the tunnel could shelter a statue or water feature. Features for your garden are limited only by your imagination.
